When people smile in your city,
good things happen.

They remember the place,
they remember the people there,
they remember the city,
they tell friends, and they spend money.

Welcome to Yorktown

Yorktown is a welcoming community in east central Indiana that is growing quickly. With a  highly-rated school system, myriad of parks, and plenty of trails, Yorktown attracts professional families and couples. With roots that often run deep, the community continues to enjoy a multi-generational atmosphere even as it grows. This diverse mix of residents makes for a unique culture, and with just over 11,000 residents, Yorktown’s community is notably close-knit. More than 96% of  this desirable community’s residents believe Yorktown’s quality of life is either good or excellent.¹

An Ideal Location

Yorktown is conveniently located about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne along I-69. This proximity to more populous municipalities allows Yorktown to draw in larger crowds while still maintaining a small-town feel.

IN-32, a state highway that stretches the width of Indiana, crosses directly through downtown Yorktown. This road sees more than 5,000 vehicles every day⁶, making businesses and events in downtown highly visible to visitors and passers-by.

A Redeveloped Downtown, Guided by the Community

In 2014, Yorktown officials sought the expertise of a consulting firm that specializes in the economic enhancement of downtowns, to assist in the creation of a redevelopment plan for downtown Yorktown. In its initial research, HyettPalma interviewed Yorktown residents to gain an understanding of what those living in the town wished to see in their downtown area.

Residents expressed wanting more shops, attractions that would appeal to all generations, and having a downtown that is truly “the focal point of the community.” Specifically, residents stated they’d like to see a grocery store or specialty food stores, more restaurants, clothing stores, and sporting goods or recreation stores—all of which have market opportunity to thrive in Yorktown.⁷
